Little Bea Pinafore and Leggings Sewing Pattern

Sew Me Something

The Little Bea is a smaller but perfectly formed version of Stratford upon Avon based indie sewing pattern designer, dressmaking how-to author and sewing teacher Jules Fallon’s ever-popular Beatrice Pinafore. And we have to say that this smaller version is cute, cute cute!!  The contrast binding is still there as well as the pretty cross-over back, but it has one large ‘kangaroo’ style pocket on the front instead of two.

The little Leggings are the perfect accompaniment to the Pinafore and the ruched ankles give a bit of extra detail but they could be left plain too.

It is a very simple shape but has a few techniques to help you with your sewing and Jules’ clear and easy to follow instructions will take you through everything step by step.

  • Gathering
  • A bound finish to the edges of the pockets and around the pinafore
  • Top stitching
  • Sewing with jersey
  • Inserting an elastic waistband

Make your own Little Bea Pinafore and Leggings for children aged 3 to 9.

Age 3:  Chest: 55cm      Waist:  53cm     Hips:  58cm

Age 9:  Chest:  69cm     Waist:  62cm     Hips:  73cm

Sew Me Something recommends the following fabrics:

For the pinafore:  light to medium weight cotton, linen, needle cord, soft wool suiting.

For the leggings:  knit fabrics such as light to medium weight jersey knit, double knit, French terry

You will also need 1″ wide elastic and the correct needle for your fabric. A twin needle on your machine gives a great finish to the hems of the leggings too.

You’ll need 3 – 4 metres of bias binding for the finished edges.
